Busy Weekend!

Betty and Sandi working away in the OMS guesthouse kitchen.  (This used to be a dorm for MK's (missionary kids) way back in the day.  I worked with Betty and Sandi on Friday helping get ready for Jordan and Violeta's rehearsal dinner.  (Jordan Douce is about the same age as our twins. ) The Douces have been a Youth World family for a long time.  They took over the Street kids ministry, and called it Casa Gabriel, and have grown it into a full fledged discipleship and training program that addresses the boys needs in all areas.  Sandi was in charge of the Rehearsal dinner, and she asked me if I would like to help her with it.  Yes please!  I enjoy doing stuff like this.  It was fun to work with Sandi, and get to do the flowers and help with decorations etc.  Betty has been with the Millers since they first came to Ecuador in 2001.  She is like one of the family and is an amazing woman.  She makes the best Locro de Papa--a potato soup that is superb.

Some of the flowers after making the flower run!  I had a great time using jars of various sizes, and making arrangements that had a wildflower look--Sandi was after a rustic/country, and lovely look!  I had a great time getting to work with friends, and flowers, beauty, and be creative!

Betty washed, and chopped all morning as Sandi and I worked at our stations and ran a bunch of errands!  This is the salad stuff all ready and waiting to be assembled later in the day.

The initial errands and jobs are all done!  The kitchen has been cleaned and stands waiting for assembly of salads, and the rush of serving 40 people a hot BBQ beef and fresh crisp salads, chocolate fountain and dippings was the dessert!  Sandi went all out!  [One fun side note about this kitchen and place, is that many, many years ago, it was the site of a very fun sleep-over and team building evening I got to do when I was coaching soccer.  Jessica Schrode, one of the girls on the team, and a great friend of Amber's, lived here.  So, as I walked into this place on Friday morning I was overcome with another wave of wonderful memories!  If any of you girls read this who used to play soccer when I coached, know this, that I hold that season of life as a treasured memory, and I still pray for you all!  Those really were some of the best of times!  I love you, and thanks for all the great, great times, and for teaching me so very much about life, about God, about myself!  I wouldn't trade one single minute of those days.

The dining area now ready to seat 40!  Tables are set, flowers are done, everything is ready and in place for the last minute things to be done.  Just waiting on the bridal party and family who will arrive in the early evening.

It was delightful to spend the day preparing for such a special occasion.  Fun to serve the Douce family, and help Sandi in this way.  Friday was Austin's 20th Birthday and we did get to see him for a few minutes over Corfu--coffee and chocolatinas!  (Fresh croissant like bread with a scrumptious chocolate inside!)  He was running with his team on their last day, doing the market, El Refugio, final debrief.  They left at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday a.m.  So needless to say after almost 13 days of great ministry and conversations and fun, he was one tired boy on Saturday.  He got a few hours sleep, and then we were off to the Douce/Pojmaevich wedding.  That will be the subject of the next post!
