One of the eucharisteo's (grace gifts) of weddings is that you get to see old friends who return to be part of the celebration! This was a stolen hour from a busy week, to take time to hear from returning friends, eat a scone together, and pray for each other! Sandi Miller is talking to Sarah DeVries and Abby Stroven is holding Cameron's baby Graham! So sweet to hear what God has been up to in each person, and have time to pray together on the spot, but also know better how to pray for one another in the coming months.
Cameron and Beth and Carleigh, having some laughs together. It was fun to see these moms getting some time to be together and catch up.
Here's the gang who gathered to share this moment. Beth, Carleigh, Mary, Danielle, Sandi, Sarah, Abby, Stephanie and Cameron.
This is me at the flower market picking up the order for the wedding. Last Thursday we spent the afternoon chasing down a flower order out to the North of the city, and had lots of laughs trying to find the place! Phil was a huge help as our driver and loader.
Stephanie and I after the orders were all complete! We got home about 6 p.m. from our errands on Thursday! The only glitch was that the order of mini roses did not come, and we hat to come up with a quick substitute on the spot, and hope that it would work. All part of the fun of working with flowers.
This is us on Friday morning, we had to pack Sandi, Stephanie and myself into the car and have things loaded onto us to make it all fit! We had quite a car full. We were venue-bound by 8 a.m.
The venue was a family friend of one of our missionaries who owned a sweet Hacienda about an hour outside the city to the south of Quito. It was lovely once you were there. Just a bit brutal hauling so much stuff out there and back! No one had a truck! We sure could have used one!
If you have to be crammed in a car, I can't think of a more delightful thing to be crowding you! Hydrangeas! I was anchoring them, and they me!
We made it, and the hydrangeas don't look much the worse for wear.
This is the back of the car loaded down with a variety of flowers for centerpieces, arrangements and bridal bouquets etc.
This is the sight of the reception early on Friday morning! I will also post after pictures of when it is completely decorated.
Some more "before." We got the car unloaded, and then I took some time to get the boxes opened, and organized a work space. There would be some helpers showing up in a few hours. Stephanie and I got started once we were organized. Sandi was co-ordinating the wedding, and she was busy setting up a Green Room with snacks and drinks and making a place for those of us that would work that day to come and put our things. This area was at the side of the big house, and was a covered car port that would have easily fit 6-8 cars! It was the perfect area to do all the arranging! Bright and good breeze, but sheltered from rain that did fall a few times, and protected from intense sun as well.
The only interesting part was the cows on the other side of the wall, and the pungent odor of cow dung was discordant with the lovely flowers we were working with. Sometimes I had to leave to get a breath of fresh air. Fortunately I was battling a sinus thing and so was more plugged up than normal! A blessing in disguise!
